So, what's new for 2006?
In short, everything!
The 2005 spec rebuild was good, however I felt I could go even further and better towards building the ultimate track day GTR. This would involve improvements to every aspect of the car, from the handling, braking and engine, through to the drivetrain and further weight savings...
In order to make big step forward in all round performance, it would be necessary to make some radical changes and modifications, and that's exactly what I'm in the process of doing. I've already sold the engine I built, along with the standard turbo, DTA Management, Gearbox etc, in preparation for a complete new build. The target is for around 600BHP with a drivetrain to match, curb weight around 1000KGS and to top 200MPH in a Mazda 323 GT-R!!!!
Here's a sneak preview of some of the parts involved. I expect to have the car completed some time earlyin 2007, when the finished car will be revealed!
To handle the power hike, I needed to make sure the chassis was fully capable, so every rubber bush on the car has been replaced with either poly or solid. The bushes above are for the complete rear suspension, and I also have a complete set for the front. In the pipeline are custom engine, subframe and rear diff mounts.
It's widely known that the GTR drivetrain is weak, so one of my key aims was to improve the strength, however in the process, I also wanted to improve the handling. To do this, I now have uprated front, centre and rear diffs, along with a twin plate clutch and a uprated gearbox. And, just in case that's not enough...
